Silent in thought
Since the election I’ve been sitting here on the couch every night watching the news and every night there are stories about possible voting fraud, or stories about ballots that won’t get counted and I become more and more worried about democracy in our country.
Tonight, countdown had a whole section devoted to the current voting issues, including a story about the elections in North Carolina which, due to problems with a few voting machines, may require the state to hold elections again.
Ralph Nader is urging John Kerry to press for recounts in Ohio and other states where he lost. Nader states that John Kerry should make good on his promise to make sure that everyone’s vote counted.
I guess what bothers me the most is not whether the election was stolen from John Kerry, but whether we can survive as a democracy if our elections are even in doubt in any way. This current president has decided that it will be our job to show the rest of the world how to do democracy right and I don’t see how we can do this if the rest of the world think that our last two elections are great comedy.
I must have written this post five are six times now over the last few days trying to put down into words the confusion and anger that I feel which is a direct result of the elections this last week. it is certainly not an easy thing for me to do. I am thankful bet the results were immediately available and we knew where next president will be. I just wish we knew for certain thought our president really won the election without the aid of raid voting machines encrypted election officials.
