I challenge everyone to try to give something up this year. Even if you’re not Catholic, you should give it a try. It’s a chance of self-discovery, a chance to test your limits and see if you truly are in control of yourself. I try to give up something every year.

Mom’s House

We went to visit my parents this weekend. It gave me a chance to visit with my dad for a bit. We spent some time last night just sitting in the living room listening to some jazz and talking about various current political issues. I love my folks. They’re probably the only two people on the planet who really understand me. Mom gets me more than Dad does, because I think she and I are a lot alike. I get my nerd side from my dad, but I get my creative (and disorganized) side from Mom.

I took Ana to church this morning. She’d been before, but now that she’s baptized I guess it’s more important. I don’t really go to church myself much. I was raised Catholic, but my folks said that I could do what I wanted to once I got confirmed.

I think they did the right thing with me. I believe that having a good background in faith is important. It’s better to understand something or be exposed to it and then not agree with it. as opposed to never having any interaction or real understanding of it and still make a judgement.

That’s why I think that only Catholics should be allowed to bash Catholics.

By the way, don’t forget to get your Ash on this Wednesday.
